Yet another course...

Doing some clothing tutorial I found online, it focuses on tension points and fold radiation.

That is all.

why am I so tired

Not sure why I was so tired today. I got an hour less sleep than usual but there's no way that made me THIS tired... Gonna go to bed early (once again) and set my alarm for 9 hours worth of sleep.

Two Fold

Here are some of the better folds I drew today. I like when the clothing gives kind of a boxy 3D feel, and when it emphasizes the gesture at the same time, that's the sweet spot.

God is real

So appearantly there is a Blogger app on the play store and omg how did I not know about it before. Adding images is a breeze now and the UI is super basic and lightweight so it isn't clunky. My only gripe is that it's a little too basic as it lacks alot of features the desktop version has but it's great for posting on the fly. Also it doesn't do that annoying thing on desktop where it auto saves after every action, in mobile you upload a draft just like you would a file, very cool.

Anyways I have been doing more drapery studying and want to go full blast on it tomorrow so I will do alot of those studies.

I fold

I wanted to do clothing for a long time since it really sells the characters so here it is. There are 7 basic folds according to the figure drawing book by Michael Hampton that I'm using, and have studied four so far. They aren't very good fabric drawings, I have to simplify it further and shade accurate shapes. We'll see how it turns out tomorrow.

Have you heard of girls frontline

I'm not really into gacha games, I tried Genshin Impact when it released but quickly lost interest. Had girls frontline installed on my phone for like a year but never played. It had some artists I kinda followed so I downloaded it.

However today I started playing it, and I gotta say it's kinda fun. I'll give you guys a rating in the future.

Also, which fish is the one drawn from imagination, top or bottom? Hmmm...

Take your vitamins, kids

Didn't have much time to draw today, so here's a grotesque heart looking blob thing. It's kinda hard to look at. Remember that period of time where I posted just blobs for weeks? Good times.

Also, my energy levels are getting back in order. I stopped taking my vitamin B12 I was prescribed when I flew here cause I forgot them. We'll I picked some up from the local pharmacy and it has dropped me from yawning 30 times a day to like 5 times. And also and obvious increase in energy. I had a severe deficiency when I was around 18 and it's really important stuff for your nervous system both short and long term.

Only take vitamins if you have a deficiency though.

MANNNNNNNNNN

MAN we were so close to a full month of posts, always next month I guess :(

Heres what was supposed to be yesterday's post. I think if I want to maintain a long post streak I will have to upload a scheduled draft whenever I get something done that's post worthy. So for example if it's set to 11:00, anything I have updated that draft with will get posted. Gonna incorporate that and see how it goes.

Also I will be double posting today to makeup for the lost post.

I kneel

I kneel to the crab, I'm stumped. I don't know how to make him look 3D without more values. Oh well, guess I'll move unto the next.

Some of these pages have been posted before but I added to them so I'm posting for those. Trying to use up all of my sketchbook space left before I move on to the next one. So in the meantime I will be grinding away at viscom.

Cursed fish and ghost crabs

Back on the viscom grind again (again again) and have enhanced my ability to create cursed drawings.

Gonna really try to stick with it these next couple weeks with viscom. I need to learn how to see and draw form as best I can. Gonna do at least 1 page a day and see what that does for me after a couple of weeks.

Also this crab page that I'll be finishing tomorrow is giving me headaches. How am I supposed to see the form when the reference angle is so flat? I think I have to create my own forms for what is suitable for the subject... but I could just also be bad. We shall see.

Is flipped art the real picture?

So I drew this and flipped the image on my phone and it always shocks me how different it looks. Maybe the flipped image is the real, unbiased view compared to the one I spent my time looking at while drawing.

Here's the flipped version

So future viewers, no matter how long it's been since this post was uploaded. Could you tell me if the bottom image looks weird or not, or looks as expected, thank you.

Also yes I messed up the highlights around the mouth and suit, and I usually don't blame my tools... but I'll just say it the Sakura Jelly Roll pens are trash for tanned paper no if ands or buts. The number 6 won't even work, so I had to use an 8 and a 10 which barely half work, so trash.

Design is everything

I have been studying in my off time and applying the shape language I have learned into some designs and art has never been this much fun for me. Now I know why no matter what period in my art path I was in I mostly made rather boring art.

Being so tunnel visioned in the "drawing it right" or "rendering it right" I never made "it" interesting. Even with the best technique and best rendering skills, boring is boring. If someone deigns the most crazy looking apple vs a regular apple the crazy one will take the cake. And also you can not make the boring apple more interesting by itself, but rather the scene it is in.

The 5 minute sketch above has nothing to do with what I'm saying but pretty soon here I'll show you guys what I mean.

Why do they call it a thumbnail?

This thumbnail is a little smaller than my palm, which got me wondering. Why do they call it a thumbnail? What part about this is thumb or nail.

Shapes are hard

Studied some more shape design stuff and whipped up these quick minute sketches. Triangles make a more aggressive and intense  face while circles make them calm and relaxed.

Of course the sketches look like different people because their faces are different, but they definitely give off different vibes.

Fashion is not my thing ok?

To be fair I wasn't set out to make any fashion designs... but I'd be somehow worse if I did.

Just some sketchbook sketching, today I watched a lot of artist interviews and looked into some videos on shape design. No, these sketches are not my attempt at shape design, instead tomorrow I will be doing them as shape design is peaking my interest.

Triangulation

Yeah as soon as the instructor mentioned "triangulation" I just mentally checked out. Perspective is crazy.

Anyways, it's still going strong, but getting harder to chew at. I don't know how many boxes I've drawn since I've started this course...

I can do this next lesson while I am still in Turkey but the lesson after has a ton of videos involving a ton of perfect verticals that would be a complete waste of time without my drafting board. I have 2 weeks left here anyways so I'll go a bit more slowly on the perspective and start doing viscom more.

I awaken feeling Well Rested.

Got that lovely 10% bonus.

So turns out I was right, I was infact dehydrated. I drank water all day yesterday and woke up today feeling cured. I don't want to stress out my organs like that again so I'm drinking plenty of water from here on out.

I actually felt pretty recovered today and was really in the mood to workout, but I told myself that I would wait until tomorrow just so I make sure that I'm fully recovered. So tomorrow I'm gonna blast that shoulder and trap workout.

Anyways regarding the studying, I got 3 hours of solid study time in today for perspective. The course's progress bar on the website shows that I'm almost 3/4ths the way done so I'm getting pretty excited about finishing. No doubt that this course was what I needed for my art.

I need more water

So apparently I was dehydrated yesterday because this morning I woke up early at like 6 am due to some acid reflux issues. Looked into it later today and found out that acid reflux can be caused by dehydration. This makes sense which I had a massive headache this morning which felt relieved every time I drank some water.

Anyways because of that, I didn't workout today because of how bad I felt. Gonna keep tabs on myself for drinking plenty of water from here on out. I also probably won't workout tomorrow so I can make sure I recover, but if I am feeling a ton of energy tomorrow I will.

Image post is about drawing symmetrical objects, however I did this just to answer some ideas I had, as this lecture was a couple lessons away in the course. I may or may not finish this now and instead just wait until I get to this lesson again.

I am so unbelievably tired

I have been so exhausted these past few days it's frustrating. I think it's mostly due to me falling asleep late and working out seven days a week. I stopped drinking caffiene in the evening recently because even though some nights my eyes were tired I still couldn't fall asleep.

Usually I tell myself to stop being a baby about it and do the assignments or watch the lessons, but today I just know that in my current condition it would be pointless. Being this tired while studying has a really low chance of me retaining the information the next day, or any length of time.

When I first starting drawing seriously at around 14 or 15 years old, I got this intense burning sensation in my head from being so frustrated and out of energy from messing up my lines and trying to figure out how to correct it. This was temporary and it went away after a couple months of drawing, but I felt that same burning sensation when I was studying today.

I figured it was my brain telling me that I'm burned out, it was even affecting my mood, so I called it a day for the studies. Got about a few hours in, but I was just tired from the start. Gonna go to bed early tonight and get a good 9 hours of sleep in, and see what that does for me.

So that's how you draw those weird roofs

Really starting to regret not taking this perspective course earlier. It has answered a lot of my questions regarding how to draw things, like this house with a window coming out from the roof. Better late then never though. These two diagrams show in picture methods on how to find angle relationships.

He's going crazy

Is that another drawing of a male less than 1 month between the last one? Ladies and gents he's really skyrocketing in performance with these 5 minute sketches no sarcasm at all. The kelp hair really sells it.

Actually, I'm just tired, gonna make tomorrow a good day.

We do a little trolling

I'm trolling my studying routine, not that I'm not studying, but I haven't touched viscom in a long time. I gotta get back on top of it so I don't lose my train of thought regarding my theories and knowledge.

Also, this girl's face is a little too far forward, but not enough for me to care. Drawn from imagination.

100% Pencil Grain

A thumb-sized face sketch, the camera is so zoomed in you can see the pencil grain.

That is all.

Snake? SNAKE?! SNAAAA-

Or at least, it looks like one, had to rep the classic meme. Anyway, apologies for the minute-sketch. Was busy on vacation, I actually did around an hour of drawing today but no studies. I'll get back on them soon.

The leg studies have payed off

Might have to do some kneecap studies, but other than that I think they look pretty alright. Do they look natural? No, she probably isolated setorids in her legs somehow. Do they look cool? Cooler than they did before for sure.

Wednesday, July 6, 2022

Ohh yeah that's the stuff

This is what I live for, drawing random figure poses within minutes that look at least sellable in terms of accuracy. I spent like 5 minutes or less on this sketch, and might refine it if I find the time.

Speaking of time, I did not have much of it today. I slept 11 hours so I woke up late, studied some leg anatomy and played some tennis. Did some walking and talking, got home, showered, ate, and now we are here. Gonna get to bed so I can wake up on-time tomorrow.

Leg Day

Some leg studies from the anatomy course I started yesterday. I will do some practice on them tomorrow, and maybe the next day too, before I move on to the next muscle group. Also I played tennis today with my dad and that was a leg day in and of itself.

Anatomy time

I've been in the mood lately to study anatomy so I'm starting Rey Bustos' Anatomy Course. I did this much in 45 minutes but I plan to do 1 hour a day. The red marks are either exposed or important bones.

How to reliably draw faces consistently?

Lately I've been doing a lot of for-fun sketching. I've been exercising the perspective and viscom knowledge I've learned from the diagrams and studies. Pretty soon here I will get back on track with the studying.

It's a female, wait no a male...

I started this head drawing thinking it was gonna be a male, but now that I look at the eyes it looks female...

Uhhhh... asexual... maybe...

Overloaded

Did a bit of studying and drawing today. But right now, I got a shot of Smirnoff in a Turkish tea glass and enjoying the night.

Rough patch

I've been doing a ton of modeling and rigging in Blender recently but haven't really been drawing much. I average about 35 hours a ...
